Sound System En Masse - India’s first community reggae event

Sound system En Masse took place on the 25th of January 2015. Reggae artists from all over India performed for the people at Victory play ground, Esamiya Bazar in Hyderabad.

The event started with a workshop conducted by Delhi Sultanate and Begum X. The workshop introduced children from the area to the sound, history and practice of reggae music. Children learned about the music and trained their hand at writing and performing songs and DJ’ing.

Sound System En Masse took place a week after the workshop in the basketball courts of Victory Playground. The day commenced with attendees using paper cups placed in the fencing around the courts to form images and text that served as individual expressions and collectively claimed the space. Music then took center-stage with performance and dancing continuing from afternoon into the evening.

Sound System En Masse was organised by Bass Sanskriti & Monkey Radio India in collaboration with Esamiya Bazar Welfare Association and supported by individuals from across India and the world by the online crowdfunding platform wishberry.
